AF Go Home

My absence is inexcusable, but things have been nuts lately. Life is chaotic right now, something I hate, and af is still here. She is very heavy and I am afraid my body is at its limit with my uterus. My gyn consistently tells me that heavy bleeding and clotting is normal for pcos, but I'm at the end of my rope. I don't think he takes me seriously when I try to explain to him how bad things are. I can understand that some women come in and can be a bit dramatic or fearful, but my mother almost died from the same thing. I have reason to be concerned.

If I call him, provera will be put on the table. I can't take that stuff anymore. I have nightmares about that crap, and there are too many emotions involved there. I feel like provera is a symbol of failure for me. When that was called in, it always signified the end of a cycle and my failure to conceive. I can't go back to that place right now. I am going in the next few days to be put on the pill, but I don't want to go back to that gyn. Even he gives me bad vibes. I think that is why I put it off so long.

Anyway, I just want to know, is this type of bleeding perfectly safe and normal? Do I have cause for concern? Perhaps I am just being melodramatic about it all and I don't realize that everyone deals with this, but I don't think so.

I feel so weak and tired all the time. That is the main reason I haven't been writing. Don't feel bad, I haven't been reading blogs much either. I quit one of my jobs, I handed all of the household duties to Hubby for a while. I go to bed early, sleep late, nap all weekend long. It's horrid. Even now I am struggling to stay awake.

PCOS.... I hate you.

If you are weak and tired, that is NOT normal. Find a different doc, maybe a woman, that will take you seriously. It sounds to me like you might be anemic. The heavy bleeding can cause that and anemia can cause exhaustion.

I totally agree with Kristin, see if you can find another (preferably female) doctor because it doesn't sound right.

I have PCOS too and I once had Aunt Flo come to stay for 3 weeks, she took a mini-break for a few days and then came back in full force for another week. It left me feeling as you do now and I was anaemic.

Please seek another opinion!

Best wishes

I agree with the others. Get a second opinion. I'm older than you, I'm 51. I've done the menopause thing. Right before my last period I had the mother of all periods. I bled like a stuck pig for over 7 wks. I should've acted much soon than I did but I finally went to my family doctor and I did take the Provera just long enough to stop the period. I was extremely anemic. Making my bed caused me to be out of breath. She said it was because my red blood cells didn't have enough oxygen in them. A walk down the driveway to get the mail began to require a nap to recover from. Once I went to my doctor she put me on iron supplements. I had to take 2 iron tablets a day for over 11 months in order to rebuild my store of iron. Then I was on 1 day for another 6 months before I could stop taking them. My dr. said once you get your iron stores that depleted it takes a long time to get back to normal. It's true. After that marathon period it took me months to feel better.

Here's hoping you feel better soon. Oh and female doctor...great suggestion.

I agree with the other posters - if there is any way you could see another doctor, please do!

As a fellow PCOS sufferer I can totally relate to the frustration -- I wish PCOS would go away too!!

Take care of yourself.
